Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need any experience?
No experience is necessary! Our novice squads are dedicated to training complete beginners. You will learn everything you need to know about the technique while you receive top-notch training that will get you in the best shape of your life. While many of our successful rowers come from backgrounds of swimming, running, soccer, or other high school sports, over 90 percent of the team had never rowed prior to joining. If you do have experience, email one of our varsity coaches, Coach Mike for men or Coach Rodd for women, for more information. You can also email

What makes a good rower?
While many successful rowers are tall and athletic, anyone who is willing to work hard and compete at a high level is welcome to try out for the team. We also recruit coxswains who are hard-working, athletic, and around 110-125lbs. Coxswains steer the boat, lead the team during practices, and execute the race strategy.

How do I know if rowing is for me if I’ve never done it before?
The best way to find out is to try it for yourself! Please stop by one of our Meetings for the Curious, even if you are unsure about joining. From there, we’ll get you in a boat, so you can try the sport out. Our first two weeks of practices are completely commitment free including no financial commitment until after the trial period.

How do you row in the middle of Atlanta?
We row out of our boathouse in Roswell, which is approximately a 20 minute drive from campus. In addition, we conduct land practices on campus at the Campus Recreation Center, where we have 15+ ergometers, or rowing machines.

Are you a high school rower?

We are seeking quality student-athletes to help enhance our team and school and think that you would make a great addition.
