End of a good season, on to a better

November marked the end of a good season for fall racing. The men got third place in the club 8+ at head of the Charles and second place in the mens champion 8+ at head of the hooch. The women got 2nd place in the club 8+ at head of the hooch. Congratulations to all.

We are excited about our new novice rowers, and we can’t wait to see them blossom in the spring season. We are looking forward, first there is erg sprints on February 7th, and then for the real racing.

2012 Atlanta Erg Sprints

Georgia Tech Crew had a great showing Saturday at the Atlanta Erg Sprints. With almost every rower achieving a PR, Sean Gibel getting a gold medal and Matt Giannelli, Samantha Casto, Kaitlin Avra getting silver medals, and Ian McCreadie and Matt Waters getting bronze in their respective events (along a strong showing in other events, like Adam Mckenzie’s Silver in the 500 Meter Dash), Tech is definitely gearing up for a fast spring season.

SIRA Championships

At the SIRA Championships this weekend, we saw some exciting racing from Georgia Tech. SIRAs are the first race where each rower may only race once. The Men’s Light Four and Heavy Eight both just missed grand finals to crush in B Finals, while the Women’s Varsity Eight placed third in C Finals. The Novice Fours both raced in D Finals, with the Men placing third, and the Women placing first. The Men’s Novice Eight Placed 6th in B Finals. The Women’s Novice Eight placed 5th in Grand Finals against varsity squads, beating all other club teams, making them SIRA Club Champions!
